Mills House, 1923

This house was designed for Francis Charlton Mills, Jr., president and treasurer of the Mills Company, by Charles Schneider, who is credited with the major influence in the design of Stan Hywet. The predominant style influence is late Georgian, or Adamesque, what in America is called Federal. If you pause to study the façade, you will notice Schneider's free use of Georgian motifs, combined with his sure knowledge of the way to use them. The interior is light and spacious with rich classical details emphasizing the salient features of the rooms.
