John H. Graham, who designed this house for Mr. Oliver Kingsley Brooks, also designed the former Coventry Library, a building up for Landmark designation. The house is not at all showy, but demonstrates all the basic qualities that have made the old Cleveland Heights homes so satisfying for two generations. Graham had adhered to the principles of the early 20th century domestic architects, preferring simple solids, well proportioned, over stylistic mannerisms or decorative detail. This is truly what we're aiming for, a house based on traditional forms, but evolving into a style in itself. The interior is light and spacious, combining a pleasant formality without pomp and a professional convenience of plan without idiosyncrasy.
