2489 Arlington Road (1996)

Built in 1913, this handsome red brick home energetically combines elements of Colonial Revival, Neoclassical, and Arts and Crafts styles. The home's present owners have complimented this lively eclecticism with their own decor and design ideas.

Leaded glass sidelights frame the front door. The decorative details on the portico echo the frieze of the Neoclassical home to the north. The stained glass window over the doorway was designed by the owner.

Rich burgundys and blues, accented by white, warm the formal living and dining room. White and a brilliant blue lighten the kitchen. The master suite, where white and greens predominate, runs the width of the second floor. Palladian windows and a wide stairway make the third floor an open, gracious space.

In three years the present owners have renovated and redecorated the whole house from the basement to the third floor, including remodeling the kitchen, leaving only the original cupboards, and redesigning and repaneling the library off the living room. Just completed are the spacious family room and adjoining porches behind the kitchen. These open on to new walkways, flower beds, and plantings in the backyard.
